IMAGES AND DETAILS
I never use paint straight out of the tube. I find such an approach to be too raw and rude to the viewer’s eyes. My color palette always includes some level of desaturasion of a color. In this painting you can witness portions with high chroma and others that tend towards gray shades.
In most canvases I prefer to use the darkest values in the first two layers and reserve the lightest colors for the final one. In this painting I mixed the values so in some portion of the artwork there are very light colors which are beneath the top layer. This approach created the illusion of glowing spots.
Acrylics stay elastic when they are dry. This is a huge advantage that prevents cracking. These plastic polymers are also softer and more prone to mechanical damage than oils.
This is why I always finish my artwork with high quality water based polyurethane varnish. It provides strong protection for the painting.
The quality of the paint has huge importance when it comes to the longevity of an artwork. All pigments are not born equal. Some have a strong tendency to color shift and loss of saturation.
I avoid such pigments at all cost and I use only chemical compounds that are tested and proven to last for generations.
Most artists create a clear focal point to attract the viewer’s attention. Very often this approach makes the artwork predictable and too easy for the mind to comprehend.
My paintings must seem different with each glance and to provide something new every time people look at it. This way a painting never gets old.
A CLOSE UP VIEW OF PORTIONS OF THE PAINTING
Orange and blue are opposite colors. By touching each other they create distress for the mind. For most parts of the canvas I use colors that look well together. By using small places with opposite colors I don’t allow my artworks to look too harmonious and predictable.
In this portion of the painting I used hard edge color transitions. They are divided in two layers. They are distinguishable from each other because of the significant difference in values. I managed to implement a lot of information which is not lost.
I use patterns that are intentionally chaotic. You witness a mixture of sharp and smooth curves and straight lines. To make my signature distinguishable from the rest of the canvas I use letters with no decoration.
The fragment displays the contrast between soft and hard edges. The sharp curves possess light magenta color but on top of dark magenta layer they look almost white. The purple has similar value as the magenta and they blend smoothly.
For most of the artwork I use different nuances of the same color to prevent each region from looking monochromatic. To make my painting less predictable for the blue region I allowed monochromatic appearances by mixing blue, white and black.
